As an Accounting Specialist (Payroll Tax Accountant), you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with state tax laws and regulations related to payroll functions. Your primary role will be a part of a team who manage and oversee payroll tax processes for our clients and co-employees to ensure accurate and timely filing, reporting, and payment of state payroll taxes in 47 states for over 17,000 co-employees.

Responsibilities:
1. Manage and maintain accurate employee payroll tax information and records for multiple states.

2. New client tax setup (registration & account closure for State Unemployment & Withholding taxes; setup in PrismHR software).

3. Calculate, review, and prepare payroll tax returns for state jurisdictions, including unemployment taxes, disability taxes, and other tax-related payments.


4. Effectively communicate with state tax agencies to solve problems, clarify complex tax requirements, and resolve tax-related discrepancies or issues.

5. Keep updated on changes in state tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements, and implement necessary changes to ensure compliance.

6. Conduct regular audits of payroll data to identify and rectify any errors or discrepancies.

7. Respond promptly and efficiently to inquiries and requests from internal and external stakeholders, such as HR, Accounting, and Payroll departments, along with clients and employees, regarding state payroll taxes.

8. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate reporting of payroll tax data for financial statements and audits.

9. Maintain a high level of data confidentiality while handling sensitive information related to employee payroll taxes.

10. Assist with any special projects, reconciliations, or other payroll-related tasks as required.

Requirements:
1. High School Diploma. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.
2. Proven experience working as a Payroll Tax Accountant, with a deep understanding of state-specific payroll tax laws and regulations.
3. Excellent knowledge of payroll systems, software, and reporting tools.
4. Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
5. Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel and other relevant software.
6. Ability to handle tasks with accuracy, attention to detail, and within strict deadlines.
7. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
8. Strong organizational and time management abilities to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
9. A high level of integrity, reliability, and confidentiality.
10. Experience with multi-state payroll processing and tax filings is highly desired.

  • 8 hour shift, Monday through Friday, 8-5
  • Monthly/Quarterly/Annual opportunities for overtime
  • One location; onsite daily
