Summary
Our client in Mount Airy, NC is seeking an experienced technician to repair and maintain mechanical equipment and components such as industrial and commercial motors, pumps, gearboxes, and various rotating equipment of all sizes and types.
Responsibilities include disassembly, evaluation, and repair.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect equipment and components for physical damage, missing parts, and leaks.
- Disassemble equipment, marking and removing parts, measuring gears, shafts, bearings, and noting wear or damage.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures through root cause analysis.
- Test motors, windings, and electric circuits using tools such as voltage meters, meggers, and impulse winding testers.
- Review schematic drawings and perform research using manufacturer and part numbers.
- Operate lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and other machine shop equipment.
- Clean parts, tools, and equipment during disassembly and repair.
- Use torches, grinders, hydraulic and mechanical pullers for disassembly and repair.
- Perform drilling, tapping, deburring, and surface conditioning using manual machinery and tools.
- Meet with leadership to determine work priorities and adjust activities accordingly.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 8 years hands-on experience disassembling/assembling industrial or commercial machinery required.
- Skilled in using pneumatic and manual hand tools and measuring tools (micrometers).
- Previous experience operating industrial equipment such as forklifts, hoists, and overhead cranes required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of pumps, motors, gearboxes, and electrical equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, safety rules, and technical documents.
- Strong math skills (basic arithmetic and fractions).
- Detail-oriented with strong initiative and ability to meet deadlines.
- Team-oriented and flexible to work outside standard business hours as needed.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Frequent standing, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and fine motor skills required.
- Work in a climate-controlled, well-lit mechanical shop environment.
- Occasional travel for customer visits or training.
