Position Title: Marketing & Communications Coordinator (Part-Time)
Position Type: Direct Hire
Hours: 25–30 hours per week. This role includes occasional evening and weekend event coverage, generally 2–4 times per month.
Pay Range: $20 - $25/hour (dependent on experience) Location: Cedar Knolls, NJ
Travel: Local travel to council events and activities in NJ
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator plays a key role in promoting Scouting America’s mission, programs, and community impact for the local council. This position is responsible for capturing and sharing compelling stories across social media platforms, supporting marketing initiatives, and ensuring consistent, engaging communication with families, volunteers, community partners, and the public. The ideal candidate has a passion for youth development and a background in Scouting (either Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or similar organizations).
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will be responsible for:
Social Media & Content Creation
· Develop, post, and manage daily/weekly content across all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.).
· Create engaging written, photo, and video content aligned with Scouting America’s brand voice and mission.
· Capture high-quality photos and videos at council events, ceremonies, camp activities, fundraisers, and community programs.
· Monitor social media channels, respond to comments/messages, and engage with followers in a timely and professional manner.
· Track performance of posts and campaigns; recommend improvements based on analytics.
Marketing & Communications Support
· Assist in the creation of marketing materials such as flyers, brochures, newsletters, presentations, and email campaigns.
· Collaborate with council staff and volunteers to develop promotional content for membership drives, programs, training, camp offerings, and special events.
· Maintain and update website pages as needed (no coding required).
· Assist with posting events to website.
· Support brand consistency across all communications and ensure adherence to Scouting America guidelines.
Event Coverage & Community Engagement
· Attend and support local council events, including weekends/evenings as needed.
· Capture live content (photos, videos, interviews, testimonials) for use on digital platforms.
· Serve as a positive, enthusiastic representative of Scouting America in the community.
· Assist with vendor relationships, community outreach, and promotional partnerships when needed.
Qualified candidates will have the following experience:
· 1–3 years of experience in marketing, social media management, communications, or related field (internships included).
· Strong writing skills and the ability to craft engaging, mission-aligned content.
· Ability to take high-quality photos and videos; basic editing skills (Canva, Photoshop, etc.).
· Comfort attending outdoor events, camp activities, and community programs to capture content.
· Strong organizational skills, creativity, and attention to detail.
· Experience with social media analytics and basic marketing strategy.
· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally.
· Background in Scouting (Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, or Scouting America) strongly preferred.
· Familiarity with youth-serving organizations or nonprofit marketing preferred.
