Automotive Stamping Engineer Summary
- Responsible for the design, manufacturing, confirmation, and launch of dies & equipment used to make high quality automotive sheet metal body panels and parts for new model introduction.
- Support and documentation of model launch at North American manufacturing plants for process setup, die trials, and milestone activities.
- Key department indicators are part safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
Automotive Stamping Engineer Responsibilities:
- Process confirmation (process sheet and die design reviews)
- Monitor the design process and provide input to the design
- Monitor die construction and provide direction for problem resolution of any issues that may occur
- Develop and implement plans to function check the dies in offline and home line presses,
- Confirm and track part quality and die performance in detail through the new model launch phases, develop and implement specific countermeasures (Die Manufacturing Requests) to improve part quality by modification to the dies
- Confirm all aspects of die function to ensure robust processes are handed over to the home manufacturing facility
- Attend to all aspects of assigned panels and parts and related tooling and die development
- Die tryout lead onsite and countermeasure direction setting
- trial readiness confirmation with Die Manufacturing and plant pilot team, safety, quality and productivity confirmation of die and part
- Documentation of activities and handover to manufacturing plant, reflection of part activities and launch activities after handover with focus on process kaizen to implement into future projects.
Automotive Stamping Engineer Requirements:
- Experience using Catia, AutoCAD, C3 or another 3D design tool is preferable along with strong MS Office knowledge and technical writing skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Good communication skills to work in a team environment with internal and external customers.
- Fundamental knowledge of mechanics of materials.
- Fundamental knowledge of tooling and machining.
- 2-5 years of experience in Stamping (die structure/ function).
- Ability to travel to support at other locations, domestic and international; up to 50% travel to other sites in USA, Canada, Mexico, Japan and locally at vendor sites. ($75/day meal allowance, time travelling paid, all expenses paid)
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required to perform functions (paid at 1.5x)
Salary : $80,000 - $140,000
