We are seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for the County Prestress & Precast at Westmont, IL.
The Civil Engineering Intern will gain hands-on experience in the Prestress & Precast industry, learning the full lifecycle of precast concrete projects from design and calculations to fabrication and delivery. This role provides exposure to departmental workflows across Engineering, Sales, Estimating, Design, and Project Management. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, detail-oriented, and interested in developing practical engineering skills within a manufacturing environment.

We are seeking a Civil Engineering Intern for the County Prestress & Precast at Westmont, IL.

This role provides exposure to departmental workflows across Engineering, Sales, Estimating, Design, and Project Management. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, detail-oriented, and interested in developing practical engineering skills within a manufacturing environment.
Job Duties
- Develop knowledge of precast concrete manufacturing, quality control, and delivery activities.
- Attend meetings with operational teams to understand the interrelationships between departments.
- Partner with Sales and Estimating to learn project stages, bidding, and client interactions.
- Assist in creation of shop drawings and piece ticketing.
- Complete precast calculations for products such as wall panels, beams, planks, and columns under mentorship.
- Learn standard practices for connection and reinforcing design in precast structures.
- Prepare an end-of-semester presentation for divisional leadership summarizing learnings and project contributions.
- Office and plant-based work; plant areas may be noisy, hearing protection may be required.
- Exposure to manufacturing processes, production, and delivery operations.
- Frequent sitting, walking, talking, and listening.
- Occasional standing.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Previous internship experience is a plus.
- Engineering in Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Exposure to AutoCAD, Revit, RISA, or SAP2000 is a plus.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
