Purpose of Position:
The Sr. Database Engineer II is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of relational databases within our SQL Server environment. This role is responsible for ensuring secure and efficient data storage, retrieval, and management to support business operations and applications. Additionally, the Sr. Database Engineer II will support projects/initiatives that deliver enterprise values and move the organization forward.
Essential Functions:
Database Design and Development:
Design, create, and implement relational database structures, including tables, views, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
Write and optimize complex T-SQL queries/store procedures for data manipulation, retrieval, and reporting.
Create and maintain database documentation, including schemas, data dictionaries, and design specifications.
Performance Optimization and Maintenance:
Analyze and optimize existing SQL queries and database structures for performance improvements.
Implement indexing strategies and query tuning to enhance database efficiency.
Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues such as deadlocks, slow queries, and resource contention.
Ensure data quality, integrity, and security through the implementation of constraints, triggers, and access controls.
Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, recovery, and migration.
Collaboration and Support:
Work closely with application developers to integrate SQL Server databases with various applications.
Collaborate with data analysts and business users to understand business requirements and develop appropriate solutions.
Partner with IT Enterprise Operations to manage, support and optimize Choice Administrators’ SQL Server databases.
Provide support for data-related issues and assist with data analysis and business intelligence initiatives.
Stay current with the latest SQL Server technologies and best practices.
On-site or remote regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
Perform other business tasks or functions as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Required Technical Skills:
Proficiency in T-SQL programming and Microsoft SQL Server technologies.
Strong understanding of relational database concepts and data modeling.
Extensive knowledge of extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes.
Strong experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
Knowledge of database administration, data security principles and data integrity best practices.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve database-related issues.
Hands-on experience using Azure DevOps Server/Team Foundation Server (TFS).
Recent experience with HIPAA, PHI, PII technology compliance management.
Preferred Technical Skills:
Familiarity with SSIS, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
Familiarity with performance tuning techniques, including indexing and query optimization.
Non-technical Skills:
Strong understanding of Project Management and Business Analysis concepts and practices (e.g., Agile and Waterfall methodologies).
Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines without compromising quality, both independently and as part of a team.
Adhere to all PHI (Protected Health Information) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Systems, or equivalent professional training/experience.
Seven plus (7 ) years of recent, hands-on database management/engineering experience (Microsoft SQL Server preferred).
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and occasional standing and walking. Must have adequate hearing for phone work. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Must be able to use a keyboard and other office equipment. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
Salary : $135,000 - $155,000
