Plumber

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Performs plumbing maintenance tasks for WHA properties and developments. Position may require occasional overtime.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Caulks and tests joints and pipe systems to eliminate the possibility of leaking;
2. Measures, cuts, and threads black, galvanized PVC, and copper pipes and fittings;
3. Installs and checks valves and pressure gauges;
4. Fabricates and installs insulation materials on pipes;
5. Places and connects water and sewerage fixtures;
6. Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures and accessories;
7. Makes repairs to vacuum and condensate pumps;
8. Thaws out frozen pipes;
9. Repairs low pressure heating units;
10. Flushes radiators and feeder lines in boilers;
11. Regulates feed, temperature gauges, and other controls and gauges;
12. Reads and interprets blueprints and engineering drawings and specifications;
13. Selects and orders all materials, supplies, and equipment needed to undertake work;
14. Plans and prioritizes work; estimates quantities of material to be used at each job;
15. Performs soldering of copper pipe and fitting;
16. Performs emergency work in case of fire, flood, or snow removal if determined by management to be in the public interest.
17. Repairs heating units as necessary.
18. Performs similar, job-related duties as assigned.
19. May be required to work in tight and uncomfortable spaces, above and below floor spaces; 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Journeyman plumber’s license required, Master license preferred
3. Valid, insurable driver’s license
4. Minimum of five (5) years continuous, full-time experience working as a plumber
5. Familiarity with residential and commercial plumbing systems and codes
6. Ability to install and maintain pipes and fittings and plumbing devices
7. Ability to analyze plumbing problems and troubleshoot for needed repairs
8. Good interpersonal communication skills; ability to work well with other skilled and unskilled employees, residents, contractors, and vendors
9. Ability to plan, layout, and perform assignments with minimal supervision
10. Ability to be relied upon to be available for work

ENVIRONMENTAL/PHYSICAL REQS. TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. These positions require working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and are subject to heavy and strenuous work. May encounter undesirable pests.
2. Ability to work in a public housing environment [within occupied and unoccupied units, common spaces, boiler rooms, elevators, other closed areas, roofs, outside areas of properties] in all weather conditions [hot, cold, humid, dry and wet].
3. Ability to work in an environment with conditions such as sleet, snow, dust and dirt, as well as cramped quarters and high places.
4. Ability to work in environment with conditions which may include: fumes, odors, gases, chemicals, dust, grass, weeds and pollen as well as decibels in the range of 30-65
