2026-27 Math Interventionist (K-7)

Worcester Cultural Academy Charter Public School
Worcester, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 8/22/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/20/2026
About the Role Worcester Cultural Academy is seeking a skilled and data-driven Math Interventionist to join our student support team. In this role, you will deliver targeted, evidence-based Tier 2 math instruction to students who have been identified as needing additional support beyond core classroom instruction. You will work in close partnership with classroom teachers, the special education team, and school leadership to ensure every student has access to the mathematical thinking skills they need to succeed. This is a role for someone who brings both pedagogical expertise and genuine curiosity about what’s getting in the way of a student’s progress — and who knows how to use data to drive instruction rather than just document it. If you are energized by working closely with students in small groups, building relationships with teachers as a thought partner, and seeing measurable growth over time, we want to hear from you. This role contributes to WCA’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all student and staff interactions. Who We Are Worcester Cultural Academy (WCA) is a growing charter public school that opened in August 2023 with a vision of becoming a K–8 community. We launched as a K-4 school and have added a grade every year since — this fall we welcome our first 7th graders. As an EL (Expeditionary Learning) Education school, we believe in hands-on learning that challenges students to grow in three dimensions: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work. We partner with organizations like the EcoTarium, Worcester Art Museum, and Hanover Theater and anchor our curriculum in Learning Expeditions that make learning meaningful and real. We want to be honest with prospective candidates: this is energizing, demanding work. Our expectations for student growth are high, our school is still building its systems and culture, and we ask everyone on our team to show up fully for students and each other. If that kind of challenge excites you, we want to hear from you. What You’ll Do Tier 2 Intervention and Instruction Deliver targeted, small-group math instruction to students identified for Tier 2 support through a structured intervention model Design and implement intervention lessons that are responsive to each student’s specific skill gaps and misconceptions, grounded in evidence-based math practices Differentiate instruction across a range of learners, including English Language Learners and students with IEPs, in close coordination with the special education team Build lessons that are engaging and appropriately rigorous, connecting intervention content to grade-level standards and classroom learning Monitor student attendance and participation in intervention groups, following up proactively when students are absent or disengaged Assessment and Data Administer universal screeners, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring tools to identify student needs and track growth over time Analyze assessment data to determine appropriate groupings, prioritize skill areas, and adjust instruction based on what the data reveals Maintain accurate and organized intervention records, including session logs, progress monitoring data, and student goal-tracking Prepare clear data summaries for teacher collaboration meetings, student support team reviews, and family conferences Use data to communicate student progress honestly and specifically with teachers, families, and school leadership Collaboration and Consultation Partner with classroom teachers (Grades K–7) to align intervention supports with core instruction and identify students whose needs may be escalating Serve as a thought partner to teachers on math instructional strategies, common student misconceptions, and approaches for closing skill gaps Collaborate with the special education team to ensure intervention services are coordinated with IEP goals and do not duplicate or conflict with other supports Participate in student support team (SST) meetings and multi-tiered support system (MTSS) processes, contributing intervention data and instructional recommendations Communicate regularly with school leadership about caseload, student progress, and any systemic patterns emerging in student math performance Participate in grade-level and staff meetings as a contributing member of the WCA instructional team Family Engagement Communicate proactively with families about their child’s math progress, intervention goals, and strategies to support learning at home Participate in family conferences and IEP meetings as appropriate, presenting student data with clarity and cultural sensitivity Offer families concrete, accessible strategies to reinforce mathematical thinking outside of school Professional Practice Stay current on research and best practices in math intervention, numeracy development, and multi-tiered support systems Reflect regularly on intervention effectiveness and make adjustments grounded in student outcome data Engage in WCA’s professional development programming and contribute to a school culture of continuous improvement Promote and support diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in all student, family, and staff interactions Other duties as assigned What You Bring Massachusetts DESE licensure in Elementary Education (Grades 1–6), or eligibility for licensure Strong mathematical content knowledge across the K–6 continuum, with demonstrated ability to teach math conceptually and procedurally Documented track record of measurable student growth in math, including in intervention or small-group settings Experience administering and interpreting math diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments (e.g., STAR Math, Aimsweb, Eureka, iReady, or similar) Familiarity with evidence-based math intervention programs and structured numeracy approaches Experience working with English Language Learners and students with IEPs in diverse urban school settings Strong data literacy — comfortable analyzing assessment results, grouping students by need, and adjusting instruction accordingly Excellent collaboration and communication skills;
