Job Description
Job Title: BMS Accountant Department: Bloomington Medical Services
Reports to: Accounting Director FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary:
The accountant will support financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting to ensure the organization’s financial health and compliance. This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in financial modeling, and the ability to communicate financial insights to leadership and operational stakeholders.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for closing and producing monthly BMS profit and loss statements by practice, balance sheet and statement of cash flow.
- Responsible for preparation of annual BMS operating and capital budgets.
- Analyze financial data and prepare detailed reports on trends, variances, and performance metrics.
- Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
- Monitor revenue, expenses, and profitability across service lines to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with leadership and practice managers to provide financial insights for operational decisions.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and healthcare industry regulations.
- Support audits and assist in maintaining accurate financial records.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for new projects, equipment purchases, and service expansions.
- Maintain annual provider contract compliance worksheets.
- Maintain all provider bonus calculations including submitting for approval by BMS Chief Operating Officer and transmitting to payroll upon approval.
- Provide support with financial reporting and other duties that promote sustainability of Wooster Community Hospital Health System.
- Reconciles and prepares, as necessary BMS 1099’s.
- Prepares annual BMS Workers Comp True-UP.
- Completes and files BMS Unclaimed funds report.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement models and regulatory requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet established deadlines.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, (Master’s or CPA preferred).
- 2 years of experience in financial analysis, preferably in healthcare, medical services or physician practice management.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling; experience with hospital information systems, specifically Meditech preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
