Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist, Listening & Spoken Language Fellow

Classification/FTE Regular, Full Time

FLSA Exemption Status: Exempt (Professional)

Salary Grade/Range: 208 $65,300 to $88,200

Supervisor (title): Executive Director

Job Summary: The Listening & Spoken Language Fellow (LSLF) is enrolled in the AG Bell Academy, actively pursuing certification, and works under the direction of the Listening & Spoken Language Specialist. While pursuing certification, the LSLF works in the Early Intervention program, the Comprehensive Therapy program and the WISE Preschool Program by providing supervised and direct services to infants, toddlers, and young children who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Administer and interpret speech/language diagnostic tests to deaf and hard of hearing children.

  • Determine therapy objectives and strategies based upon diagnostic assessment.
  • Provide counseling for families of children recently diagnosed with hearing loss and families considering cochlear implantation for their children.
  • Plan and implement speech-language therapy sessions using developmentally appropriate activities, coaching caregivers to learn various communication strategies, including Listening and Spoken Language techniques
  • Collaborate with other therapists and early childhood educators to plan small group therapy sessions focused on building language, auditory, and pre-literacy skills
  • Serve as case manager for children and families by communicating with physicians and other professionals, consulting with school system providers, and making referrals for additional services as needed.
  • In-service and educate parents, teachers and other professionals about hearing loss and its effects on childhood development.
  • Complete documentation including evaluation reports, treatment plans, progress reports, therapy notes, and transition reports in a timely manner.
  • Participate in regular staffing and training
  • Complete all assignments as directed by the LSL mentor
  • Diagnose a variety of communication delays and disorders.
  • Plan and implement speech-language therapy sessions for children presenting with a variety of communication delays/disorders using developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Conduct Early Intervention developmental evaluations.
  • Complete all requirements for LSL certification as outlined by the AG Bell Academy.
  • Work with educational teams to provide consistent and collaborative instruction to children with hearing loss Pre-K-middle school
  • Assist with parent meetings and provide parent education sessions as requested
  • Assist with fundraising and public relations events
  • Provide therapy sessions at a WISE location, in family homes, at childcare centers, and public school settings. Some travel required.

Requirements, Skills/Abilities:

  • Member of the AG Bell Academy, actively obtaining LSLS certification
  • Member of the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association holding the certificate of Clinical Competence
  • License to practice speech-language pathology in Alabama

· Display professional appearance and conduct in representing WISE and adhere to its policies, culture, and standards.

· Hold and maintain a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record

· Pass a background Screening

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited institution
  • Experience working with children B-age 5
