Lead Trainer, Kennel Operator

Job Description:

Woof Creek Kennel is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Kennel Manager & Dog Trainer to oversee all operational functions of our facility, which can accommodate up to 30 dogs. This role is crucial in ensuring the well-being of our canine guests and requires a strong focus on dog training. The ideal candidate will be proficient in dog behavior and psychology, possess exceptional communication skills, and work independently to create individualized training programs for each dog in our board and train service.

Starting Training Pay: $15 per hour, with exceptional performance leading to earning potential exceeding $40 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage Daily Operations: Oversee all aspects of kennel operations while ensuring the safety and well-being of all dogs in our care.
• Individualized Training Program Development: Create and implement unique training programs for each dog in the board and train service, tailoring approaches to meet specific behavioral needs.
• Behavioral Monitoring: Learn and remember the names and behaviors of all dogs, understanding pack dynamics to prevent conflicts and facilitate positive interactions.
• Predictive Behavior Analysis: Utilize knowledge of body language and dog behavior to anticipate potential conflicts and act proactively to prevent incidents.
• Customer Communication: Engage effectively with customers during drop-off and pick-up, providing updates on their dog’s training progress and addressing questions or concerns.
• Stress Management: Handle stressful situations calmly and effectively, including potential dog altercations, while ensuring the safety of all dogs.
• Facility Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the kennel, ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for both dogs and clients.
• Self-Education: Demonstrate initiative in researching dog behavior and training methodologies to enhance skills and adapt to the needs of dogs in care.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in dog training and behavior management.
• Proven understanding of dog behavior, psychology, and effective training techniques.
• Strong knowledge of pack dynamics and the ability to work within them.
• Ability to recognize signs of potential conflict among dogs through body language.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective customer interaction.
• Capable of managing stressful situations and making quick, informed decisions.
• Physically capable of handling dogs in high-stress scenarios, including intervening during altercations.
• Detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic and a preference for an active, hands-on role.
