About the Role:

The International Operations Surface Engineering Team based in Houston is accountable for all sub-sea and facilities engineering outcomes.  This role spans across all of our operated facilities in the International Operations portfolio.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain instrumentation and automation systems to ensure continuous operation and adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance of instrumentation devices, control systems, and automation equipment to identify potential issues and minimize downtime.
  • Analyze process data and alarms generated by control systems to diagnose equipment malfunctions, process deviations, or abnormal operating conditions, and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Coordinate with maintenance technicians and external service providers to perform repairs, calibrations, and upgrades of instrumentation and control systems, following established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Develop and update standard operating procedures, maintenance manuals, and troubleshooting guides for instrumentation and automation systems, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses (RCAs) to identify the underlying causes of equipment failures or process upsets, and recommend corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to operations personnel on the proper operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems, including hands-on training as needed.
  • Collaborate with reliability engineers and process engineers to optimize equipment performance, enhance process efficiency, and minimize operational risks through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interface with production supervisors, control room operators, and other stakeholders to coordinate maintenance activities, shutdowns, and equipment changes without disrupting production schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices related to instrumentation, automation, process safety, and environmental protection.

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in operations and maintenance of instrumentation and automation systems, preferably in the oil and gas industry or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation principles, process control systems, and automation technologies, with hands-on experience in troubleshooting and maintenance.

Skills and Experiences Cont.

  • Familiarity with safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, API, SIL) and industry standards governing instrumentation, electrical equipment, and hazardous area classification.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting P&IDs, control system diagrams, wiring schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with diverse stakeholders and conveying technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
