Job Title: Store Manager
Description:
As a Store Manager we are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic person who enjoys serving and leading our teammates. This role will be responsible for a wide variety of complex tasks within the company. To manage total store operations to achieve maximum sales and profit while minimizing labor costs and maintaining optimum store conditions.
Reports To: District Manager
Responsibilities:
- To manage the store so that every guest receives prompt, courteous, and friendly service.
- To create a yearly operations budget.
- To attain sales, profit, expense and labor budgets.
- Review and approve department budgets.
- Know the budgeted inventory level of each department and to work with each Department Manager to achieve them.
- Know the standards of performance and productivity for each department in the store, and work with Department Managers to achieve them.
- To review with department heads reports, figures, and observations that may have a bearing on the success of the store and departments.
- To maximize the sale of private label products.
- To counsel with the unit manager, merchandising departments, and counsel on the effective use of sales plans, merchandising techniques, product presentation, and special promotion activity.
- To communicate with unit manager and/or counselor on problems, recommendations for change, and the effectiveness of plans and merchandising decisions.
- To maintain an awareness of the competition's marketing and pricing strategy. Check the competition regularly and communicates with unit manager on proposed changes in merchandising and pricing strategies.
- To create a weekly end aisle display plan.
- To complete all reports (shrink, productivity, ad markdown, DSD price changes, "central" price group, display performance, out-of-stocks, transfers, "street money", credits, reclaim) required by the unit manager.
- To supervise and report the purchase of "deal" merchandise. (Items, UPC, quantity, cost, retail gross profit %.)
- To direct:
- The ordering of merchandise and supplies on schedule from the warehouse and authorized vendors.
- The receiving and handling of merchandise and supplies.
- To direct:
- An outstanding store condition program to include floors, windows, shelving, and equipment maintenance
- An effective back door and front-end security procedures, including enforcement of store teammate purchase policies
- An effective store safety and fire prevention program.
- To assure, through proper supervision, that all DSD products are authorized, checked in properly, recorded in DSD System/Price Book, and SRP update on the front-end systems.
- To assure, through proper supervision, all departments are ready daily and that:
- All merchandise is checked out through the front end at the correct price,
- All price changes are properly completed on the front-end system and shelf tags.
- To assure prompt and accurate service at the front end and service departments by properly supervising the training and scheduling of personnel and to see that all guest requests and/or complaints are handled with courtesy.
- To conduct store meetings to review merchandising, sales planning, and operating problems and to keeps teammates informed about matters concerning them on their job.
- To supervise selection, hiring, and training of store teammates and make effective use of available training programs and materials.
- To supervise the scheduling of store personnel and to review the schedules with each department head.
- To evaluate teammates' performances regularly (at least once a year), giving personal recognition for outstanding performance; to recommend personnel for promotion; and to take necessary action with those not performing up to the set standards.
Task of the Job - This position generally involves:
- Mobility:
- Move while conducting training and orientation of personnel, approximately 100 yards.
- Move to supervise: the receiving of product, movement of product to the floor or storage area, opening/cutting of cases, inspect product quality, sorting of cases/merchandise, building of displays on the shelf and at end aisles, the allocation of space in grocery categories, order merchandise and supplies, cleaning and maintenance, removal of trash/debris from the department, price marking and signage throughout the store, approximately 100 yards.
- Work on tile or concrete for a maximum of 8 hours in duration.
- The Store Manager will perform the same Tasks of the Job as any teammate while substituting as part of the work crew or as part of the training program for new teammates.
- Recognize cases, case cutter edge, case strips, shelf location, product size/description/quality, guests, shelf tags, labels on products, stocking carts, knives, scale, wrapper, department production equipment, cooler layout, packaging materials, debris on floor, aisle markers, and signs.
- Perceive color difference on product and product labels.
- Recognize cleaning/maintenance equipment, pallet jacks, forklifts, ovens, mixers, slicers, meat grinder, baler controls, etc.
- Read forms used in the operation of the store.
- Respond to guest questions and responses.
- Respond to intercom/phone.
- Respond to co-workers’ questions and comments.
- Respond to vendor/driver questions/comments.
- Respond to the sound of baler/pallet jack/forklift/cleaning equipment operation.

Required:
- Able to give/receive complex verbal instructions/descriptions to/from supervisors/co-workers/teammates concerning store/department policy/procedures and use of equipment.
- A stable work and educational history.
- The ability to read and write English; able to read instructions, merchandise labels, warehouse order codes, numbers, reports, printed paper and forms.
- Make decisions concerning: the placement of merchandise on the shelf/display, pricing, allocation of shelf space, teammate scheduling, expense control, order of product/supplies, hiring/supervision of teammates, merchandising plans, departments operational policies and procedures and the sales/promotion of merchandise.
- Good interpersonal communications.
- Knowledge of regulations/laws that would apply to operation of the business: Wage & Hour, Family Medical Leave Act, OSHA, ADA, EEO, Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, Nutrition Labeling & Education Act, Weights and Measures etc.
Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior Grocery Store experience.
