Position Summary: Woods Transportation Solution is looking for a Freight Broker Sales Specialist, this is a hybrid role responsible for two critical functions: (1) Managing the logistics and securing competitive transportation for our distribution customers' non-core freight, and (2) Proactively sourcing and closing new, external customer freight to generate brokerage revenue. This role serves as a key link between our company's core distribution business and its third-party logistics brokerage services.


Primary Responsibilities: 

Internal/In-House Customer Logistics (Account Management)

·        Consultation G Capture: Act as the logistics expert for existing company customers (those utilizing our distribution centers). Identify opportunities to capture their overflow freight, lanes outside of our core services, or freight not handled by our internal fleet.

·        Solution Design: Analyze the in-house customers’ shipping patterns and needs to provide them with competitive, compliant, and efficient brokerage solutions.

·        Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with our internal sales, distribution, and warehouse teams to ensure seamless service delivery and identify new brokerage opportunities within the existing customer base.

·        Service Coordination: Oversee the movement of this freight from quoting through delivery, ensuring high service levels that support our overall customer relationship.


External Customer Acquisition (Broker Sales)

·        New Business Development: Aggressively prospect, cold call, and qualify new, external customers to generate sales leads and build a profitable book of third-party logistics business.

·        Pipeline Management: Manage the entire sales cycle from initial contact to securing the first load and growing the account.

·        Rate and Service Negotiation: Negotiate profitable freight rates and terms with external customers, utilizing market data to secure the highest possible gross margin on loads.

·        Sales Targets: Consistently meet or exceed aggressive sales and gross margin goals as set by management.


Freight Operations and Execution

·        Carrier Sourcing: Work closely with the Carrier Sales to efficiently source and secure reliable carrier capacity for all brokered loads.

·        Load Management: Accurately input and manage load data, tracking, and documentation (BOLs, PODs, Rate Cons) within the Transportation Management System.

·        Problem Resolution: Act as the primary point of escalation for all brokered shipments, addressing transit, delivery, and capacity issues quickly and effectively.

·        Market Analysis: Stay current on market trends, industry regulations, and seasonal capacity changes to ensure competitive pricing and service.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

·        Sales Acumen: Proven track record of generating new business through cold calling and sustained business development.

·        Logistics Knowledge: Strong understanding of various freight modes (TL, LTL, Dray) and standard industry practices.

·        Communication G Negotiation: Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport with both internal stakeholders and external clients.

·        Technical Proficiency: Proficient with TMS, CRM software, and Microsoft Office, ZoomInfo, DAT RateView.

·        Entrepreneurial Mindset: Highly motivated, self-starter who can manage their workload independently and thrive in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

·        Experience: 2 years of experience in freight brokerage, 3PL sales, or broker sales. Experience working within a company that utilizes an asset-based or distribution component is highly preferred.

·        Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field is preferred.
