What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Woodland School District 50?

Primary Goal: Provide a safe and properly maintained building to enhance the learning environment for all District stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years experience in related field
  • Ability to lift minimum 50 pounds, stoop, climb, reach
  • Good organizational skills
  • Possess valid driver license
  • Experience in snow removal
  • Extensive experience with schematics, blue prints, lighting circuits
  • Extensive experience with HVAC systems, carpentry, electricity, plumbing, welding, brazing, and other building maintenance tasks
  • EPA Refrigerant Certification or ability to obtain

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform HVAC diagnostics and maintenance, which may include proper refrigerant charging or recovery of refrigeration.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform assembly, disassembly and adjustments on a variety of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, fire alarm, security system, lockers, cabinets, and kitchen equipment.
  • Conduct snow removal district-wide as assigned on an as-needed basis, which may include, but not limited to: plowing, shoveling, salting sidewalks, snow blowing, or other.
  • Work with building maintenance to perform general building maintenance including but not limited to floors, windows, doors, bathrooms, ceilings, drywall, carpeting, locks/lock sets, etc.
  • Work with building custodial staff to perform general custodial maintenance as requested by Facility Manager or school Administration.
  • Provide general security at exterior doors, report unauthorized exterior doors propped open, question unauthorized persons on property, and other security-related tasks when conducting daily activities.
  • Ensure work orders are completed and appropriate documentation is filed, utilizing email and paper documents as appropriate.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, as well as a list of vendors and emergency contacts.
  • Respond to emergencies when called upon by the Facility Manager, his representative, District Administrator, police / fire department, or security company.
  • Report defective equipment and unsafe or unusual conditions to Facility Manager or representative.
  • Assist other Operations and Facilities personnel as requested by Facility Manager or representative.
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by Facility Manager or representative.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
: Must be able to use the district email system, the Facilities Scheduling system, and Microsoft Office/Google docs. Must also be able to use the call-in system.

: Must be able to work collaboratively with a team, must be able to make difficult decisions that impact learning and safety, must be able to work harmoniously with students, parents, staff, and administration. Must be able to follow directives given by the School Administration and O&F Director/Facilities Manager. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community at large. Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people. Must have strong organizational skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.
Physical Effort: Work requires handling weight materials or equipment a minimum of 50 lbs., but not for sustained periods. Must be able to stoop, climb, and reach.
Working Conditions: Some exposure to definitely disagreeable elements may exist.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time position 260 days / year. May be assigned overtime, if needed. Work hours may be flexed as defined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Non-exempt Union position.

WORK HOURS: Monday - Friday; 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

SALARY RANGE: $26.36 per hour minimum (Commensurate with experience and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement)
