Job Description - The School Counselor helps students prepare for academic achievement, ensure career readiness, and develop personal or social competencies through a comprehensive, preventive, and developmental counseling program. The goal is to ensure that students will become productive and well-adjusted adults. This position is a long-term substitute counselor. The position will need ot be filled until Friday, April 3, 2026. There is a possibility that this job will extend until the end of May.
Qualifications:
- MA in school counseling with a valid ESA certificate
- Two years of experience preferred
- Experience or knowledge of MTSS and PBIS implementation
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse
- Ability to relate well to administrators, teachers, parents, and students
- Ability to convey humor and positive energy with team members, students, and parents
- Regular and punctual attendance
- Preference in screening of applications will be given to bilingual candidates, especially Spanish
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to and support board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules, and directives
- Implement the Comprehensive School Counseling Program as defined by the State of Washington and Woodland Public Schools
- Make him/herself available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services
- Provide individual and group counseling services to students to support their academic, social-emotional, and career development
- Support the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework by identifying student needs and implementing appropriate interventions
- Promote Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) by actively participating in school-wide behavior support initiatives
- Collaborate with the Family Community Resource Center (FCRC) to connect families with resources such as housing support, mental health services, and academic interventions
- Work closely with administrators and teachers to support student attendance initiatives, including check-ins and interventions for chronically absent students
- Assist with 504 Plan coordination, ensuring compliance with student accommodations and support plans
- Advocate for students and provide crisis intervention as needed
- Assist students with academic planning and scheduling, ensuring they are placed in appropriate courses for success
- Facilitate outreach efforts to provide services to students, parents/guardians, and staff
- Submit required reports promptly and accurately
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or District Administrator
