Job Summary

A sign language interpreter in a school district provides essential communication access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, supporting their full participation in classroom instruction and school activities. This role involves interpreting between spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL), as well as collaborating with teachers and staff to promote an inclusive learning environment. Must have completed coursework in American Sign Language and meet current State requirements; in order to be placed as a Sign Language Interpreter II incumbent must have received the RID certificate or its equivalent.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Sign Language Interpreters have advanced skills, knowledge and training in the area of specialization. While advancement to this position could come from other interpreting-related positions, it is most likely that incumbents will only be considered by meeting the minimum qualifications on the job description.

The District will contribute towards health benefits on a prorated basis (based on employee's work year and hours assigned). The benefit package includes options for medical, dental and vision. Medical plan options include Kaiser, Western Health Advantage and Sutter Health Plus. $10,960 per year for Employee-only medical benefit selection. $13,000 per year for Employee 1 or Family medical benefit selection. The Board of Trustees is determined to provide district employees and job applicants a safe, positive environment where they are assured of full and equal employment access and opportunities, protection from harassment or intimidation, and freedom from any fear of reprisal or retribution for asserting their employment rights in accordance with law.
