Job Summary
Performs a variety of interpretation in various settings for deaf of hearing D/HH (D/HH) students in grades PreK-12. Performs simultaneous translation to large audience in lecture and public meeting settings. Conducts District wide classes on American Sign Language (ASL) to parents, District staff and students.
Requirements / Qualifications
Completed EdJoin Application Cover Letter Resume Current Letter of Recommendation Valid Driver License Required Education and Experience: BA Degree with a minimum of one year of experience working with D/HH students in an instructional setting is required, or an AA Degree with four years of experience. Must have completed coursework in American Sign Language and meet current State requirements; in order to be placed as a Sign Language Interpreter II incumbent must have received the RID certificate or its equivalent.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Sign Language Interpreters have advanced skills, knowledge and training in the area of specialization. While advancement to this position could come from other interpreting-related positions, it is most likely that incumbents will only be considered by meeting the minimum qualifications on the job description.
