Building and Grounds Maintenance Technician

Overview
We are seeking a dependable and service-minded Building and Grounds Maintenance Technician to support the care, maintenance, and daily operations of our church facilities. This role works closely with the Senior Pastor and Building & Grounds Committee to ensure that buildings, systems, and equipment are well-maintained, safe, and ready for ministry use. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance and minor repairs, coordinating with vendors for specialized services, assisting with event setup and furniture movement, managing facility-related supplies, and helping oversee the use and condition of church equipment and vehicles.

The ideal candidate will have general maintenance experience, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment. This position requires physical capability, flexibility in scheduling, and a commitment to supporting the mission and ministries of the church.

Detailed Job Description

• Administrative Supervisor: Senior Pastor

Coordinates and meets with: Building and Grounds Committee

Major Job Duties:

A. Oversight and maintenance and repairs of facilities and systems

i. Performing small job/handyman tasks as needed, which may include: basic repairs to plumbing, doors, locks, lights, windows/screens, painting, HVAC filter replacements, etc.

ii. Assist B & G in monitoring mechanical systems needing attention and contacting appropriate vendors for remediation including: plumbing, HVAC, electrical, kitchen equipment (refrigerator, freezers, icemaker, commercial dishwasher, electronic door systems, water usage alerts, etc.

iii. Contact an appropriate member of B & G immediately during instances of system malfunctions.

iv. Assist B&G in coordinating with vendors and meeting them when needed for inspections/repairs

v. Assist B&G in monitoring and programming as needed all thermostats in each building according to seasonal changes, changes in church schedule and/or power outages. Be one of several persons with authorization to adjust thermostats using mobile phone.

vi. Assist B&G in scheduling exterminators as needed

B. Purchasing-Order janitorial supplies when needed (paper products, cleaning supplies, chemicals for courtyard water features, etc.)

C. Building/facility Set-up

i. Assist staff and B&G with set-up for special events and needed

ii. Assist staff and B&G in moving or relocating furnishings and other items between rooms or to and from storage areas as directed.

D. Coordinate the borrowing of equipment/furniture

i. Process requests

ii. File appropriate forms in office

iii. Coordinate scheduling to make sure there are no conflicts with church needs

iv. Check inventory and condition of equipment/furniture upon return

E. Assists the Transportation Ministry in keeping the registration and inspections of church vehicles up to date.

Requirements and Qualifications

1. Previous experience in general maintenance or related trade positions preferred

2. Be able to lift, pull/push ( furniture, tables, chairs, boxes, etc.). Must be able to climb ladders (up to 10 feet) stoop and bend.

3. Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills with the church staff, B & G Committee, congregation, vendors, and general public.

4. Be able to prioritize tasks, follow instructions, and demonstrate good time management

5. Understand (and respond to) the criticality of the mission, goals, and programs of the church and Woodhaven pre-school

6. Submit to a background check as required by church personnel regulations

7. Be flexible and dependable regarding the mutually agreed upon work schedule, which includes being physically present at Woodhaven parts of three days each week. On rare occasions, due to emergencies, some weekend or after-hours work may be required. Two Saturday church-wide workdays by the congregation (spring and fall) will need the support of this position.

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
