Job Summary:
The Risk Management and Claims Analyst is responsible for supporting the organization’s risk mitigation efforts by managing the intake, investigation, and resolution of claims and cases. This role involves conducting initial assessments, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and ensuring timely and accurate documentation throughout the claim’s lifecycle. By partnering closely with Human Resources and organizational leadership, the analyst plays a key role in identifying risk trends and recommending strategic solutions to reduce exposure and enhance operational resilience.


Duties & Responsibilities: 



  • Assists with the investigation and management of diverse claims, including auto, general liability, workers’ compensation, E&O, ADA, FMLA, and other employment-related matters.

  • Ensure adherence to company reporting protocols and regulatory requirements by securing all necessary documentation in alignment with internal SOPs and federal/state laws.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for insurance carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs), medical providers, and legal counsel, facilitating timely and accurate exchange of information.

  • Collaborate with the Risk Manager, defense counsel, and TPAs on complex claims to ensure fiscal responsibility and minimize exposure; exercise decision-making authority within approved financial thresholds.

  • Recommend and maintain appropriate claims reserve levels to support cost control and strategic claims management.

  • Participate in arbitrations, mediations, settlement conferences, and small claims court proceedings in partnership with the Risk Manager.

  • Stay current with evolving legislation and regulatory standards related to workplace safety and employee protections.

  • Manage and maintain the Claims Dashboard, ensuring accurate data capture and reporting for internal stakeholders.

  • Conduct periodic audits to verify compliance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare documentation and analysis to support internal and external audits, legal reviews, and case evaluations.

  • Assist with the reconstruction and analysis of legacy claims acquired through mergers or acquisitions to assess financial impact and develop strategic resolution plans.

  • Analyze claims data to identify trends, risk exposures, and opportunities for process improvement.

  • Ensure accuracy in claims-related invoicing through diligent data management and reconciliation.

  • Monitor all incidents reported to ensure proper classifications and to identify patterns and risks. 

  • Maintain proactive communication with divisional HR teams to support claims investigations and resolution efforts.

  • Deliver training and guidance to HR and leadership on claims reporting, investigation protocols, and compliance topics (e.g., ADA, FLSA, EEO).

  • Facilitate the implementation of standardized practices across divisions related to safety, disciplinary procedures, and incident reporting.

  • Provide consultative support to HR, legal, and operational leadership on risk mitigation strategies and compliance matters.

  • Participate in regular cross-functional meetings to review claim status, discuss resolution strategies, and align on risk management objectives.

 

Requirements:



  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Human Resources, Risk Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent education and experience will be considered.

  • Professional certification in Human Resources or Risk Management (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP, ARM) is strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in claims management, risk analysis, and/or HR compliance within a corporate or multi-site environment.

  • Multi-state WC experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with TPAs, insurance carriers, or self-insured programs is a plus.

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional integrity, discretion, and accountability in handling sensitive and confidential matters.

  • Solid understanding of workers’ compensation laws, employment regulations, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices related to claims, claim lifecycle management, and risk management.


Additional Skills: 



  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights.

  • Advanced negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to manage complex claims and stakeholder interactions.

  • Experience in project management, including planning, execution, and cross-functional coordination.

  • Working knowledge of EEO, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, and other employment-related compliance requirements.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software platforms; experience with claims management systems is a plus.

  • Strong critical thinking and strategic planning abilities, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and risk mitigation.

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred. 

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands and work environment for this role align with those of a standard office setting. While performing job duties, the employee may occasionally need to stand, walk, sit, use hands for handling objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as talk and hear. This role may occasionally require lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. 

 

Travel:

This position may require travel to other Woodgrain locations as necessary.
