We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will support veterinarians and veterinary assistants in providing exceptional animal care and client service. This role involves hands-on animal handling, assisting with medical procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized clinic environment. Prior experience in veterinary settings, animal husbandry, or kennel work is highly valued. The Veterinary Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our animal patients and supporting the overall operations of our veterinary practice.
Duties
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Administer medications and vaccinations under supervision, following proper aseptic techniques.
- Support veterinary assistant and veterinarians with laboratory procedures, sample collection, and processing.
- Care for animals in the kennel, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring health status.
- Maintain accurate records of treatments, medications, and patient information using veterinary terminology.
- Assist front desk staff with client communication, appointment scheduling, and check-in/check-out processes.
- Support with animal catheterization, IV placement, and other technical procedures as trained.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized clinic environment adhering to infection control protocols.
- Provide compassionate animal handling for dogs, cats, equines, and other small animals with knowledge of animal physiology and anatomy.
Experience
- Previous kennel experience or pet care background is preferred.
- Experience working as a veterinary technician or assistant in a veterinary clinic is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal restraint techniques, and laboratory procedures is advantageous.
- Familiarity with animal husbandry practices including medication administration and animal physiology is beneficial.
- Experience with dog handling, equine care, or pet grooming enhances candidacy.
- Prior veterinary critical care experience or laboratory experience is a plus.
