Faculty - Tenure Track, Secondary and Special Education

Position Announcement

The School of Education at Utah Valley University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position as a Secondary Education faculty member with expertise in disciplinary literacy, classroom management, educational technology, or assessment of teaching quality in the Secondary & Special Education Department. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of teacher education principles and practices as well as relevant K-12 teaching experience. This individual will teach undergraduate courses in secondary education and related subjects aligned with their expertise. The position will begin on August 1st, 2027.

Summary Of Responsibilities

• Teach professional-level courses. Prepare instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, etc.) as necessary. Maintain a student-centered approach to education.
• Maintain and submit accurate, up-to-date reports and records related to student accountability and performance. Conference with students regarding coursework, field work, and academic endeavors. Mentors students in teacher performance assessments.
• Improve professionally and maintain currency in the courses taught. Participate in scholarly activities.
• Provide service to the college. Participate in the school accreditation process regarding key assignments, etc. Develop positive relationships with colleagues, public school teachers, administration, and other education stakeholders. Serve on committees and attend faculty and other meetings as assigned.
• Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

• Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctoral degree in education or in a closely-related field (or ABD with dissertation defense scheduled; degree must be in hand by position start date).
• At least two years of relevant K-12 learner-centered teaching experience.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications :

• At least two years of college/university teaching experience.
• Earned relevant professional license or credentials.
• Additional K-12 teaching experience.
• Experience supporting preservice teachers in a capstone project and/or student teaching supervision.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

• Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated competence in Content Literacy, Classroom Management, Teacher Performance Assessments or Instructional Technology.
• Thorough knowledge of current research, instructional theory, methods, strategies, assessments, innovations, and techniques in pre-service teacher education, including clinical programming and teacher performance assessment.
• Knowledge of cultural competencies to work effectively with all students and colleagues.
• Knowledge of and willingness to uphold professional and ethical teaching standards.
• Knowledge of content and skills required to teach courses in Content Literacy and mentor students in teacher performance assessments to prospective teachers and graduate students.
