Responsibilities
- Oversee daily nursing operations during weekend shifts, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and safety standards.
- Supervise and support nursing staff, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs), fostering teamwork and professional development.
- Coordinate patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and medical documentation using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Facilitate communication among interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, therapists, and case managers, to optimize patient care plans.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, infection control procedures, and state/federal healthcare laws.
- Manage emergency situations such as airway management, ventilator use, or acute pain management with confidence and professionalism.
- Conduct patient evaluations involving physical examinations, medication administration, IV infusion procedures, catheter care, and wound management.
- Support discharge planning, family education, and coordination of post-hospital care for patients with complex needs such as dementia care or behavioral health conditions.
Requirements
- Valid RN license with current state registration; BSN preferred.
- Proven experience in critical care environments such as ICU or Level I Trauma Centers; ICU experience highly valued.
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and documentation standards.
- Hands-on experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; proficiency in medical records management.
- Strong leadership skills with previous supervising or nurse management experience; ability to motivate teams during high-pressure situations.
- Competency in performing medical procedures including phlebotomy, sterile technique, suturing assistance, and specimen collection/processing.
- Knowledge of specialized areas such as geriatrics, dementia care, pediatric nursing (including neonatal ventilator management), or behavioral health is desirable.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining excellent patient care standards; flexible availability for weekend shifts is essential.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are preferred.
