Overview
The Weekend Supervisor provides professional nursing services to the residents of Wood-Lawn Heights Inc. on the weekends and may function in a variety of capacities under the direction of the Administrator. The Weekend Supervisor directs and delegates management of professional and ancillary nursing personnel, scheduling of personnel, duty assignments, and all other aspects of service delivery of Wood-Lawn Heights, Inc. on Saturday and Sunday.
Duties
- Has the authority to direct all weekend nursing staff under the direction of the DON.
- He/she reports only to the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing or the Administrator.
- Decisions made by the Weekend Supervisor may be amended by the Administrator or DON.
- He/she may discipline staff on weekends for policy violations
- He/she may function as a charge nurse when necessary to deliver nursing services.
- Work with the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing to maintain adequate staffing on weekends.
- Make personal rounds to maintain contact with patients and adjust Wood-Lawn Heights, Inc services as needed to meet residents’ needs.
- Participate in employee in-service training programs for professional and non-professional staff as assigned by DON.
- Analyze and evaluate nursing and related services rendered to improve the quality of patient care and the delivery of services in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
- Perform task to complete any weekend admissions.
- Assist nursing staff with Medicare assessment and documentation
- Notifying the physician of any change of condition as needed
- Serve as a liaison between the nursing home and all other parties.
- Responsible for reporting to the DON, ADON, and Administrator: Incidents/Accidents, Discharges, Death, Hospitalization, LOA, complaints, Codes, anything other than normal routine activity.
- Assist with reassurance and guidance to ensure Wood-lawn Heights standards are met and compliance from staff to provide optimal care to each resident.
- Assist with orientation of all new employees on weekends.
- Must maintain confidentiality while educating employees and implementing patient care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state certification.
- Minimum of three years of clinical experience in acute care settings such as ICU, emergency medicine, or hospital medicine; experience in Level I or Level II trauma centers preferred.
- Demonstrated supervisory or team management experience within a healthcare environment.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems including Cerner, Epic, or Athenahealth; familiarity with medical documentation standards is essential.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology related to medication administration and patient assessment.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics (PICU), neonatal ventilator management, or individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Skills in IV insertion, phlebotomy, sterile processing techniques, and specimen collection are required.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with the ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively while maintaining professionalism.
