Qualifications:

General Description:
- Help students to learn subject matter and lifelong skills which will lead toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth. Direct and evaluates the learning experiences of the students in activities sponsored by the school in an as needed daily basis.
- Essential Functions:
- Maintain records as required by district policy; maintains professional ethics.
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
- Model appropriate dress.
- Provide guidance and counsel to the students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development.
- Administer the classroom and its program of organization and management. Discipline and control should be maintained at all times with those whom the special contract employee is charged with supervision.
- Be prompt in arriving in and dismissing a class in conformity with schools’ schedules, as well as reporting promptly to school and to any meetings called.
- Present clear, complete, and accurate explanations suitable to level of learners.
- Work with students individually and in small groups using strategies appropriate to developmental levels of students.
- Approach students and instructional content in a positive and enthusiastic manner; maintain a calm, self-confident, and poised disposition.
- Receive learner’s questions comfortably and answer them clearly and completely in the learner’s mode of communication.
- Provide positive reinforcement for acceptable academic and social behavior.
- Manage behavior with consistency, fairness and individuality, with support from other staff in the classroom.
- Manage time effectively and efficiently and provide clear and concise instructions.
- Promote and monitor appropriate social/ behavioral relationships and activities between students
- Encourage active student participation during instruction through questioning and other forms of interaction in a kind, fair and interested manner.
- Explain school rules, directions, and instructions to students in their mode of communication (non-verbal and verbal learners).
- Grade papers, copy, and create instructional materials as needed.
- Administer first aid services to students if necessary.
- Assist in daily attendance, lunch count, student documentation and data collection and other daily staff responsibilities throughout the day.
- Show respect and consideration for students, staff, parents, and WCESC programming.
- Provide for the care and protection of district property.
- Refer attendance, health, and psychological, emotional problems to supervisor and/or guidance counselor.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Substitutes in classroom on an as needed daily basis
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and responsible, intelligent human beings;
- Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values; and
- Conducts other duties related to the special contract employee’s duties as assigned by the supervisor or superintendent.
Additional Working Conditions:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
- Occasional interaction among students with socially inappropriate and/ or age inappropriate behaviors.
