Calling All Passionate Middle and High School Teachers – Come Teach the Way You Always Dreamed Of Are you an experienced middle or high school teacher who loves working with students—but feels boxed in by standardized tests, rigid curriculum, and endless paperwork? Do you miss those lightbulb moments—when students connect the dots, dive down rabbit holes, and ask “what if…”? Are you craving real, authentic connection with your students? If that resonates, we want to meet you. About Us We’re a new, small, student-centered microschool for middle and high-schoolers. Our learners are bright, curious, creative, and often neurodivergent (ADHD, dyslexia, ASD, anxiety, etc.). They're also gifted - academically, intellecturally, creativitily, and they crave challenge, connection, and a safe space to be themselves. Our educational model ditches the traditional playbook. We don’t give busywork, and we don’t teach to the test. Instead, we create rigorous, meaningful learning experiences rooted in curiosity, relationships, and joy. We integrate field studies, project-based learning, and social-emotional development into everything we do. And we laugh—a lot. We are Wonder Learning Center from South Carolina and relocated our microschool to North Carolina this Fall. While we've brought a couple of families/teachers and our certified therapy dog with us, we are starting with new teachers, new students, and a new space in Apex. This is your opportunity to get in on the ground floor and build with us as we expand and grow! We're gearing up for 20-25 students this year and hope to (slowly and intentionally) grow to a max of 50 students in the next 3-5 years. About YOU We’re looking for dedicated and creative teachers to lead engaging middle and high school classes in the subject that makes you most passionate - starting immediately. This position is ideal for someone who wants to make a real difference and thrives in a creative, student-centered environment. This is a hands-on, relationship-first role. You’re not just a teacher—you’re a counselor, cheerleader, human lie detector, and stand-in parent some days. You’re passionate about your subject matter, but even more passionate about reaching students and making learning real. You’re flexible, funny, collaborative, and comfortable wearing many hats! You believe: Students learn best when they feel safe and are engaged, curious, and supported Mistakes are part of the process Students should have voice and choice in how they learn and demonstrate understanding Creativity, collaboration, and laughter are critical components of a classroom Social-emotional growth is just as important as academics Middle/High School Teacher Qualifications: Experienced in teaching middle or high school Familiar with progressive education models (PBL, inquiry-based, experiential, or student-led learning) Skilled in differentiating instruction and using UDL strategies Comfortable designing and integrating curriculum across disciplines Experienced and passionate about working with gifted and twice-exceptional students Neuro-affirming, empathetic, and curious Bonus points if you: Have experience with mindfulness or SEL integration Have taught in alternative or non-traditional learning environments Middle/High School Teacher Responsibilities: In-person, school-year position (not remote or temporary) Flexible structure: part-time - 5 to 20 hours depending of the number of classes taught Small class sizes (max 12 students) of mixed-aged, ability-based groups Autonomy to design your own hands-on, inquiry-based, project-driven curriculum based on your strengths and student interests Team-based, collaborative environment, including our certified therapy dog Why This Job Is Different: We don’t believe in checking boxes. We believe in: Small classes where trust and relationships come first Freedom to design creative, meaningful curriculum Student-led inquiry, creativity, and real-world application Field studies that bring learning to life Laughing in class, every day Making space for every student to thrive A school culture that values joy, curiosity, and the whole child Benefits: Employee assistance program Flexible schedule Professional development assistance Referral program Relocation assistance How to Apply: Please send your resume and a cover letter that tells us who you are and why you want this specific role to info@wonderlearningcenternc.com.
