What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Advocate - Crisis Hotline 2nd/3rd Shift Float position at Women's Information Service, Inc. (WISE)?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: In no particular rank or order.
1. Respond to telephone crisis/information/referral calls for domestic violence/sexual assault victims/survivors.
2. Provide support and advocacy for hotline callers.
3. Transfer calls to on-call as needed.
4. Complete client intake and provide initial assessments of client needs.
5. Monitor shelter safety and access emergency services as needed.
6. Complete all routine housekeeping and safety checks and record these events on the daily/weekly cleaning list.
7. Maintain cleanliness of the office and office restroom during shift.
8. Provide support to shelter clients and their children.
9. Consult with other personnel regarding client progress, needs and goals.
10. Assist in organizing and maintenance of shelter.
11. Maintain a working knowledge of community resources.
12. Activate Domestic Violence Response Team as needed.
13. Assist in clerical duties such as filing, copying, data entry, and maintaining client paperwork.
14. Maintain appropriate client and organizational records.
15. Thoroughly clean client rooms as they are vacated.
16. Perform regular cleaning of shelter.
17. Attend and participate in the Women’s Information Service, Inc. shelter advocate staff meetings as scheduled.
18. Other duties as assigned by the Lead Shelter Advocate, Program Director, or Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Professional: Two years of college level academics or experience preferred.
Experience: Knowledge of and interest in human services or criminal justice
Communication: The ability to speak and write clearly using proper spelling and grammar.
Technical: Ability to utilize a personal computer and demonstrate familiarity with
Microsoft programs, detailed data entry; Google Drive experience preferred.
Other: Access to reliable transportation. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and navigate stairs. Must be willing to work some weekends and holidays.

SUPERVISOR/RESPONSIBLE TO: Lead Shelter Advocate, Program Director,
Executive Director
SALARY AND CLASSIFICATION: Hourly Rate: $15.30 per hour
BENEFITS: After 90 day introductory period, company paid life insurance for employees that work at least 20 hours per week, employees that work 30 hours or more per week on average are eligible for employee paid health and dental insurance. Eligible for Simple IRA and company match after one year of service.
SCHEDULE: Primarily after 5 p.m. on weekdays and any time on weekends. Second shift until midnight, third shift from midnight to 8 a.m. Schedule will include some weekends and holidays.
