Community-Based Resource Advocate

(Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Advocate)

The Community-Based Resource Advocate provides trauma-informed support and advocacy to individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence. This role focuses on helping survivors assess their needs, access critical resources, and develop individualized plans for safety and stability. This role also supports community outreach efforts to increase awareness of services and strengthen connections within the community.

DUTIES

Direct Service/Advocacy:

1. Conduct client intakes and provide ongoing case management to support survivors and their dependent children in achieving self-identified goals.

2. Provide voluntary, confidential advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through one-on-one support, group facilitation, educational workshops, and culturally responsive healing opportunities.

3. Advocate for and coordinate access to community resources including, but not limited to, children’s services, criminal justice systems, employment, health care, relocation support, and basic needs in accordance with agency policies.

4. Provide housing advocacy by assisting with emergency shelter access, safety planning related to housing, relocation assistance, housing applications, and securing safe, affordable housing options.

5. Provide ongoing case management to assist survivors with any additional self-identified goals.

6. Respond to crisis calls, participate in staff on-call rotation, provide shelter coverage as needed.

7. Collaborate with staff to ensure coordinated services, appropriate referrals, and follow-up.

8. Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of all services provided.

Outreach and Organization Representation

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community partners in the Ishpeming and Gwinn areas to enhance collaboration and expand access to services.
  • Represent the organization at community events through outreach activities such as tabling, informational booths, and public engagement efforts to increase awareness of services and resources.
  • Provide and support educational presentations for schools, community groups, and other stakeholders across Marquette County on topics related to sexual assault and domestic violence.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Adhere to all policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements of all Women’s Center programs.

2. Maintain professional, courteous, and respectful demeanor at all times while representing the Women’s Center and its programs, serving as a positive liaison to community partners.

3. Complete required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports related to client services, as assigned.

4. Participate in assigned community forums, committees, meetings, and conferences to support program visibility and professional development.

5. Maintain flexibility in scheduling and job responsibilities, including travel to satellite offices, medical offices, and other service locations, and perform additional duties as assigned by the Direct Services Coordinator.

6. Promote client safety and wellbeing by identifying and addressing potential safety concerns, reporting suspected child abuse or neglect, and remaining mindful of health and safety precautions as outlines in the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures.

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field preferred; candidates should have experience providing direct services in a helping or support-focused role.

This position is required to:

1. Complete the MDSVTB funded New Service Provider Training coordinated by MCEDSV.

2. Consent to a Criminal Background Check and fingerprinting.

3. Provide proof of completion of First Aid and CPR Training within first year of employment and remain current in certification.

4. Maintain a good driving record and carry liability insurance for passengers in personal vehicle.

5. Provide proof of vehicle insurance.

6. Have access to a car during scheduled work hours.

7. Reply to emails and answer phone messages within 24 business hours of receipt.

8. Must have a bank account for direct deposit of paychecks.

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
