Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UC COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, COM faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day. The Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences (DEPHS) is a top-tier department with world-renowned faculty and staff.

A full-time, tenure track position at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level is available in the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences at UC COM. Academic rank, tenure, and start-up package will be commensurate with credentials and experience.

The DEPHS offers graduate programs leading to MS and PhD degrees as well as a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) program. The appointee will be expected to participate in graduate and post-doctoral training, and provide service to the Department and UC COM. New faculty will find an outstanding environment for conducting both independent and interdisciplinary collaborative research within the UC COM, the Center for Public Health and the UC Cancer Center and via interactions with faculty in the UC COM, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), and Cincinnati Veteran’s Hospital Medical Center (VAMC).

Essential Functions

The successful candidate will lead an active, externally funded research program in implementation science, population health, or outcomes research, grounded in strong expertise in statistical methodology and data science. The faculty member is expected to secure and sustain extramural funding from federal agencies (e.g., NIH, AHRQ, CDC, PCORI), state/local agencies, foundations, and other sponsors; publish regularly in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals; and present findings at national and international meetings. The position calls for applying rigorous quantitative and/or qualitative approaches. Methodological expertise may include quantitative methods, qualitative methods, mixed methods, implementation and evaluation frameworks, program evaluation, pragmatic research designs, stakeholder-engaged research, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and analysis of large and complex datasets such as electronic health records, claims, registries, and population surveys. The faculty member will be expected to build collaborative, interdisciplinary partnerships across the university, affiliated health systems, and community and public health agencies, and to serve as a methodological resource for colleagues and trainees across the Center for Public Health.

Teaching and mentoring are central to the role. Responsibilities include developing and teaching courses in the Center’s academic programs, including the undergraduate public health curriculum; providing instruction and research mentorship to students, residents, and fellows; supervising theses, dissertations, and independent research projects; and helping trainees build skills in study design, biostatistics, and data analysis. The faculty member will also contribute to service activities within the Center, the university, and the broader professional community, including committee work, curriculum development, and engagement with public health partners.
