All employees of Women In Distress are considered “essential” and as such may be required to be available to remain onsite and/or required to assist during emergencies and other critical times.
Reports to: Thrift Store Manager
Days/Hours: Tuesdays through Saturdays 9:00am-6:00pm
Position requires employee to have scheduling flexibility as needed to support the team and meet the needs of this agency.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Computer Experience: Basic computer skills required
- Valid Florida driver’s license. Safe/Acceptable driving history. Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance.

Position Summary: The Thrift Store Sales Associate assists in the daily operations of the Women In Distress Thrift store, including store appearance and displays, donation receiving, customer assistance, cash register operation, stocking, pick-ups and organization of store operations. The employee holding this position must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Essential Job Functions:
- Displays excellent customer-centric people skills. Demonstrates obvious enjoyment in serving customers.
- Works with the Store Manager to oversee the assignment of volunteers and community service personnel in the organizing and cleaning of the store.
- Assists WID participants with the shopping and accounting of all purchased items relevant to each voucher and assists customers on the sales floor.
- Ensures that the back room and sales floor are organized and neat . Determines non-saleable merchandise and prepare items for sale to authorized salvage brokers.
- Maintains the day-to-day operational requirements of the store. Works with the store manager to implement strategies to generate additional sales. Coordinates with store management on merchandising changes to enhance the appeal to potential shoppers.
- Assists in the loading or unloading of donations including clothing, household and furniture products.
- Completes close of day paperwork and financials when needed and insures that all documents and monies are secured at the end of each day.
- Operates agency vehicles when necessary in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with the guidelines of agency policy. Completes daily time log of arrival and departure, record mileage, complete operational checklist and record repairs needed. Perform daily maintenance including cleanliness of the vehicle. Report any mechanical concerns immediately to the Supervisor.
- Completes other tasks as assigned.
Additional requirements: Employee will be required to take the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Core Competency training and obtain a passing grade of 75% or higher.
