We are seeking a highly experienced, detail-driven Automotive Group Controller / Office Director / CFO to oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the business office across multiple dealerships in Southern California. This role heavily focuses on accounting accuracy, clean schedules, process discipline, and clear accountability across all office roles.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who ensures every desk in the accounting office operates with precision, ownership, and consistency—while maintaining flawless financial records and strong internal controls. DMS is DealerBuilt; experience with this DMS is not a must, but a strong plus.
Business Office Oversight
- Direct and manage all accounting office functions across multiple rooftops
- Ensure clear role definition and accountability at every desk (A/P, A/R, deal posting, contracts, titling, payroll, etc.)
- Establish and enforce standardized processes and workflows across all stores
- Monitor daily activity to ensure timeliness, accuracy, and efficiency
Schedules & Financial Accuracy
- Maintain clean, fully reconciled schedules across all accounts at all times
- Review and validate deal postings, CIT, contracts in transit, and receivable balances
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end close with zero carryover issues
- Identify and resolve discrepancies quickly with root-cause accountability
Deal Flow & Transaction Control
- Oversee deal posting process from F&I to accounting to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Monitor funding timelines, CIT aging, and contract issues
- Ensure compliance with lender, OEM, and internal deal processing requirements
Process Discipline & Internal Controls
- Implement and enforce strong internal controls to prevent errors and fraud
- Conduct regular audits of deals, schedules, and accounting processes
- Standardize documentation and reporting across all stores
- Maintain strict compliance with all regulatory and OEM requirements
Team Leadership & Accountability
- Lead, train, and manage accounting staff across multiple locations
- Assign clear ownership of responsibilities for every role within the office
- Hold team members accountable to performance standards and deadlines
- Develop bench strength and ensure proper coverage across all positions
- 5–10 years of dealership accounting experience required
- Multi-store experience strongly preferred
- Proven success as a Controller or Office Manager in a dealership environment
- Deep understanding of:
- Deal posting and funding processes
- Schedules, reconciliations, and month-end close
- CIT management and contract processing
- Experience with dealership management systems (Tekion, CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, etc.)
- Strong Excel and reporting skills
- Process-driven with strong attention to detail
- Highly organized with a focus on accountability and structure
- Hands-on leader who is comfortable working in the details
- Strong problem-solving and follow-through
- Ability to enforce standards and drive consistency across multiple stores
