What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Shelter Advocate position at Women & Children's Horizons?
Previous experience with a shelter, knowledge about domestic and sexual abuse, and previous experience engaging in trauma informed care required.
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is part time (20 hours/wk). This position performs a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to supervising a shelter staff of approximately a dozen, crisis calls, and advocacy and support for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking, and their children.
WORK HOURS: We are seeking an individual to work at our shelter in-person. Current shifts include:
week 1 & 3
Second shift (3pm - 11 pm) Tuesday & Thursday
week 2
Second shift (3pm -11 pm) Saturday & Sunday
Third shift (11 pm - 7 am) Thursday
week 4
Second shift (3pm - 11pm) Saturday & Sunday
Second shift (3 pm - 11pm ) Wednesday
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma and one year of experience in crisis/social service agency preferred. Some knowledge about domestic and sexual abuse. Bachelor of Science preferred.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent communication and organizational skills; cultural competence and ability to interact with various publics; excellent interpersonal skills; must demonstrate professionalism with sound judgment and a high degree of responsibility, particularly as it relates to confidentiality. Reliable automobile with insurance and valid driver’s license required.
