Role Description The Claims Coordinator is a full-time, on-site role based in Dowagiac, MI. This role is responsible for receiving, reviewing, and setting up new claims, ensuring that all required information, documentation, and coverage details are accurately captured in internal systems. The Claims Coordinator will communicate with policyholders, claimants, agents, and internal claims professionals to gather information, provide status updates, and support timely resolution of claims. Day-to-day responsibilities include organizing claim files, verifying policy coverage, routing claims to appropriate adjusters, tracking deadlines, and following established claims procedures and regulatory requirements. The position also supports reporting, data entry, and claims-related administrative tasks to help maintain service quality, compliance, and efficiency across the claims department. The Claims Coordinator reports directly to the Claims Manager.
Qualifications
- Strong Analytical Skills with the ability to review claim information, identify discrepancies, and support accurate decisions.
- Knowledge of Insurance concepts, personal lines products, and basic policy language, or the ability to learn these quickly.
- Experience or interest in Claims Management and Claims Handling, including organizing files, tracking activities, and supporting resolution.
- Effective Communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact professionally with policyholders, agents, and team members.
- High attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and proficient use of common office and claims software systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to work cross-functionally with underwriting, customer service, and other internal teams.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or insurance-related coursework/designations is a plus.
- Prior experience in insurance, claims, or a related customer service/administrative role is preferred but not strictly required.
