What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Strategist position at WOC | Signal?
WOC | Signal Communications Strategist Role
We’re looking for a communications professional ready to stretch, who is early in their career and wants to do more than execute and is ready to think and act strategically.
This full-time, in-office role primarily supports one of two specialized agencies under (W)right On Communications, WOC | Signal, where the dedicated team is focused on complex, high-stakes B2B sectors including clean energy, advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity.
You’ll have the opportunity to provide as-needed support to WOC | Resonance from time to time. Its team is focused on community trust, stakeholder alignment and human-centered communications in tourism, senior living, education and nonprofits.
You will learn how strategic communications works in fundamentally different contexts and develop the judgment to know when each approach applies.
What You’ll Do
You will:
- Support execution of integrated communications programs across earned, owned, paid and social channels
- Research, build and maintain media lists and databases; contribute to outreach and relationship building
- Draft and refine content including media materials, social content, blogs and client communications
- Monitor media, social and AI-driven visibility; contribute to reporting and insights
- Support analytics and performance tracking to understand what’s working and why
- Coordinate client deliverables, timelines and internal workflows to ensure high-quality execution
- Participate in client meetings, prepare materials and contribute to follow-ups
- Contribute to new business research and proposal development
- Learn how strategy translates into execution and begin contributing your own thinking
This role is foundational to how our teams operate. When this role performs well, everything performs better.
What You’ll Learn
In this role, you’ll develop:
- Exposure to complex B2B sectors and how credibility is established in technical markets
- An understanding of how trust is built in community and stakeholder environments
- Experience with AI’s growing role in communications visibility and reputation
- The ability to connect communications activity to business outcomes
- Judgment in fast-moving, high-stakes situations
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5 years of experience in communications, PR or related field, preferably in an agency environment
- Strong writing skills across formats (media, digital, social)
- Curiosity about industries ranging from clean energy to cybersecurity and B2B environments
- Comfort working across both structured systems (data, analytics, tools) and human dynamics (relationships, storytelling)
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to ask questions, take feedback and grow quickly
- Familiarity with AI usage policies and governance and tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and others.
- Familiarity with the Microsoft 365 suite; project management software particularly Asana; media database and monitoring tools including MuckRack, Cision, Agility and CoverageBook; web and AI visibility monitoring tools including Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Ubersuggest, Moz or Otterly.AI; and social media monitoring, publishing and analytics platforms including Sprout Social, Hootsuite and others.
What Makes Someone Successful Here
- You’re curious about how things work and not just how to do them
- You want to understand why, not just execute what
- You’re comfortable being stretched beyond your current experience
- You take ownership of your work and development
- You enjoy being a key part of a high-performing team and bring a positive can-do attitude
- You’re building toward becoming a strategic advisor, not just a practitioner
Why Join WOC | Signal
As a member of the (W)right On Communications family of award-winning strategic communicators, you’ll join a Forbes and Newsweek Best PR Agency in America and work on the topmost floors of one of downtown San Diego’s most iconic office towers, Emerald Plaza, overlooking the City and harbor. Alongside a team of savvy, imaginative and trusted professionals solving real business problems for exciting clients, you’ll be exposed to:
