Speech and Language Pathologist 

DEFINITION:

The Speech and Language Pathologist is an employee member of the school staff designated by the Superintendent of Schools. The speech and language pathologist is primarily responsible for providing research-based intervention for students with identified speech and language deficits and supporting the success of these students in the larger classroom setting. The speech and language pathologist is also responsible for evaluating students with suspected speech and language deficits. The speech and language pathologist should be committed to continuously improving the speech and language skills of students through collaboration with teachers, school leaders, and parents. 

PREREQUISITE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

1. Minimum: Master’s degree, Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology and current ASHA membership required. 
2. Minimum: Current license with the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. 

WORKING TIME:

As stated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Woburn Teachers Association and the Woburn School Committee

DUTIES:

The Speech-Language Pathologist shall: 

1. Use a variety of service delivery models, including working with students in the substantially separate program/classroom setting
2. Communicate effectively with students and colleagues
3. Implement curricula and activities to meet IEP goals and objectives
4. Under the supervision of an SLP, use assessment data to refine intervention and inform therapy practices
5. Under the supervision of an SLP, be accountable for students’ mastery of IEP standards
6. Under the supervision of an SLP, provide small group and/or individual speech and language therapy for identified students
7. Treat and help to prevent speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, fluency, and other related disorders
8. Under the supervision of an SLP, implement and use select augmentative or alternative communication methods with appropriate students. 
9. Provide direct services to students with speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, fluency, and other related disorders
10. Collect data to monitor student performance
11. Engage in ongoing SLP supervision as required by SLPA licensure
12. Engage in one’s learning; seek out and act on feedback regularly
13. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or school and district administrators

Please note that salary placement is determined in accordance with your years of experience and level of education.
