About Maritime

Western New York Maritime Charter School is a military-style public charter school built around four cornerstones: Academic Excellence, Character Development, Physical Development, and Leadership Development.

Our teachers create structured, engaging classrooms where students understand expectations, take responsibility for their learning, and receive the support needed to succeed. We value educators who combine strong classroom leadership with clear instruction, consistent follow-through, and respect for students.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an educator who can make mathematics understandable, relevant, and accessible while maintaining high expectations for student effort and progress.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver organized, engaging instruction in Consumer Math, Practical Geometry, and Algebra I RR.

  • Connect mathematics to practical situations, including budgeting, banking, credit, measurement, purchasing decisions, and everyday problem-solving.

  • Teach geometry concepts through meaningful applications involving dimensions, area, volume, scale, and spatial reasoning.

  • Strengthen foundational algebra skills and provide targeted Algebra I Regents review and practice.

  • Break complex concepts into manageable steps using clear explanations, modeling, guided practice, and feedback.

  • Identify learning gaps and adjust instruction to meet students' needs.

  • Implement documented accommodations and collaborate with special education and student support staff.

  • Establish consistent classroom routines and address disruptions promptly and professionally.

  • Maintain accurate grades, monitor progress, and communicate consistently with families and colleagues.

Qualifications

  • New York State Mathematics certification preferred; candidates holding other teaching certifications are encouraged to apply.

  • Strong mathematics content knowledge and the ability to explain concepts clearly to students with varying skill levels.

  • Ability to teach practical applications of mathematics and support Algebra I Regents preparation.

  • NYSED fingerprint clearance required before beginning the assignment.

  • Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and follow-through.

  • Experience supporting students who need additional practice, intervention, or alternative instructional approaches preferred.

Who Will Thrive Here

We are seeking someone who:

  • Sets clear expectations and follows through consistently.

  • Builds student confidence while maintaining academic standards.

  • Recognizes that students may need a different explanation, additional practice, or a practical example to master a concept.

  • Builds positive relationships while holding students accountable for effort, participation, and work completion.

  • Arrives prepared, collaborates with colleagues, and follows school systems.

  • Maintains composure and responds to challenges with professionalism and solutions.

  • Believes students can succeed when instruction, structure, and support work together.

Why Maritime?

  • Your own classroom and meaningful responsibility for student learning.

  • The opportunity to teach mathematics students can use beyond graduation.

  • Clear expectations and support from school leadership.

  • A mission-centered school community focused on developing young leaders.

  • Potential consideration for a full-time teaching opportunity next school year.
