Position Overview

WMH Media is seeking a full-time reporter to primarily support Correctional News, the company’s flagship publication. This role will assist with daily content production, research, and reporting focused on the design, construction, renovation, and operation of correctional and justice facilities nationwide. Topics can also include technology, law enforcement, healthcare, policy, advocacy and more. Additionally, the role will support weekly web content and social media promotion for School Construction News and Healthcare Construction Operations News.


The ideal candidate is a strong writer and researcher who can work independently while collaborating closely with the editorial team to ensure consistent, accurate and timely coverage. The ideal candidate is reliable, communicative, inquisitive, detail-oriented, organized and familiar with AP Style.


Key Responsibilities


Content Development


  • Research, write, and produce digital news stories, social media posts, podcast content and feature stories for Correctional News.
  • Report on breaking news, project updates and industry trends.
  • Contribute content for print editions and special projects, as assigned.
  • Conduct background research and outreach to sources for articles and interviews.
  • Ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to editorial standards and deadlines.


Editorial Responsibilities


  • Maintain the editorial calendar and track assignments.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team on story ideas and coverage priorities.
  • Support preparation for multimedia interviews and special features.
  • Monitor engagement and readership trends.


Social Media & Promotion


  • Draft and schedule LinkedIn posts and track performance.
  • Identify opportunities to promote stories through social media and newsletters to increase followers and engagement.


Newsletters & Emails


  • Contribute content ideas and copy for monthly newsletters and email campaigns.


Events & Industry Coverage


  • Support coverage of trade shows, hosted events and interviews, as needed.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, business or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 1–3 years of experience in journalism, communications, marketing or a related content-driven role.
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
  • Familiarity with AP Style.
  • Interest in or familiarity with architecture, construction, engineering, justice or public-sector facilities is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, self-driven environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable proactively communicating with industry professionals.


Position Details


  • Full-time, salaried position
  • Primarily onsite (hybrid work eligible) with occasional travel as needed
