Performs clerical and receptionist duties for the various assigned nursing unit. Complies with hospital policies and procedures, JCAHO standards, and current government regulations. Performs duties in a responsible professional manner consistent with all standards of care and hospital policies and procedures.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
1. One (1) year of administrative or clerical experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or secretarial school.
2. CPR certification.

1. Acts as receptionist for the nursing station, including:
Records and relays messages accurately to unit personnel
Answers telephone and intercom; keeps telephone lines open for incoming calls
Places calls as directed by nurses and physician
Answers physician's pages when required
Answers general inquiries from visitors, patients, volunteers and hospital personnel
Pages physicians as directed and keeps accurate log of incoming and outgoing calls
2. Performs routine clerical duties, including:
Maintains stock of clerical supplies
Orders supplies
Complete daily requisitions as necessary
Requests maintenance for unit equipment
3. Performs ward clerk duties as required:
Places all orders in system and records order number on chart.
Obtains lab/x-ray results and places on charts for physician review.
Completes discharges.
Monitors ED log for completeness.
Prints log daily and keeps binder on unit.
Charges all supplies used on each patient timely.
Breaks down ED record and scans charts.
Reviews ED record for completeness and notifies appropriate personnel for completion if necessary.
4. Participates in staff meetings on a regular basis.
5. Attends in-service and other educational programs as scheduled.
6. Participates actively in the quality improvement program.
