Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing the Critical Care Transport (CCT) Nurse is an integral part of the Specialty Care Transport (SCT) team, providing medical care during emergent and nonemergent transports. The CCT - RN is responsible for providing intensive care monitoring, critical care intervention, and management of high-risk obstetrical, pediatric, medical, surgical, respiratory, and cardiovascular patients. CCT-Nurses are an integral part of the healthcare system, providing critical care during emergencies and making a significant impact on patient ‘s lives. 

CCT-Nurses have the opportunity to work a 12-hour on our SCT ambulance working with a SCT Oriented or Credentialed Paramedic and experienced EMT.  Conversely some CCT-Nurses work 12- or 24-hour shifts stationed in a dedicated nurse room to be deployed to meet Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances and upgrade them to a SCT level as transport need arises.  The role requires a high level of autonomy, exceptional leadership qualities, advanced training, and education, demands quick thinking, compassion, and the ability to work as part of a team to deliver timely and effective pre-hospital care.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring patients get the highest possible clinical care often elevating that level from originating rural facility to tertiary receiving facilitywithin the scope of practice of aCCT-Nurse
  • Provide leadership and mentoring toother BMT clinicians.
  • Respond to emergent and non-emergent transports.
  • Provides effective communication with patients, dispatch, crews, family members, and facility staff.
  • Completion of patient contact reports prior to shift completion.
  • QA/QI of patient care reportsfor ALS and BLS Transports by other BMT clinicians.
  • Maintain certifications with timely completion of refresher courses and CMEs.
  • Remain current on all state protocols, policies, and/or procedures.
  • Represent BMT at community events as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • AA/BSNobtained from an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Maryland RN license or ability to obtain.
  • Active DC RN license or ability to obtain.
  • Two years of Critical Care, ICU, or Emergency Department experience.
  • Current AHA BLS CPR or ability to obtain within 10 days of hire.
  • Current AHA ACLS or ability to obtain within 10 days of hire.
  • Current AHA PALS or ability to obtain within 10 days of hire.
  • Current IABP Training or ability to obtain with 10 days of hire. 
  • STABLE preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Preferred
  • Knowledge of pumps, vents, and monitors utilized in EMS care.
  • Ability to provide quality patient care within scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of all state protocols for an RN.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a lift test of 150 – 200 pounds.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Ability to speak and write English.

  • Previous EMS experiencea plus.
