Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and professional Transport Driver/CNA to provide safe and efficient transportation services within healthcare and community settings. The ideal candidate will have experience working with diverse patient populations, including those with special needs such as developmental disabilities, dementia, or requiring acute and post-acute care. This role involves transporting patients, medical supplies, and equipment to various locations while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and safety standards. The Transport Driver/CNA plays a vital role in supporting patient care continuity and operational efficiency across medical facilities and community programs.
Duties
- Safely operate company or facility vehicles to transport patients, staff, medical supplies, and equipment between hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and community sites.
- Assist patients with mobility needs using appropriate equipment such as wheelchairs, ensuring comfort and safety during transit.
- Verify patient identity and documentation before transport, adhering to HIPAA and confidentiality standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of vehicles, conducting routine inspections and reporting any maintenance issues promptly.
- Follow prescribed routes, schedules, and traffic laws to ensure timely arrivals at destinations.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare staff regarding patient status or transportation needs.
- Assist in loading and unloading medical equipment or supplies as needed while practicing aseptic techniques when applicable.
- Support patients during transfers using proper body mechanics and assistive devices like the Hoyer lift or transfer boards.
- Comply with infection control protocols, including infectious disease care procedures when transporting contagious patients.
Requirements
- Valid Certified Nursing Assistant Certification.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; experience operating various vehicle types preferred.
- Prior experience in healthcare transportation or related fields such as senior care, home & community care, or hospital medicine is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and patient care practices relevant to diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, behavioral health, ICU patients, or those requiring hospice or dementia care.
- Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients of all ages and healthcare professionals.
- Physical ability to assist with patient transfers; capable of lifting or moving patients safely when necessary.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Experience working with people with disabilities or special needs is a plus; certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS) are advantageous but not mandatory.
