Crops/Commodities: sweet corn, cantaloupes, strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, squash, flowers. Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays): Multiple contract start dates available. Alternative start date(s) include the following: 6/1/2026 Workers will perform work including but not limited to planting, transplanting, mowing, watering in nurseries and seasonal holding houses. Fertilize, prune, spray, space, water, tag and perform other plant maintenance. Attach hangers to hanging baskets and hang throughout seasonal holding houses. Load and unload trucks. Water, either by hand or by irrigation system. Irrigation system will be maintained. Prune, pinch and remove dead flowers and leaves. Count and inventory plants. Propagate plants from cuttings. Load finished plants onto wagons and trucks. Remove plastic from seasonal holding houses in spring and cover seasonal holding houses with plastic in fall. Assist with building seasonal holding houses. Fill, lift and carry various size pots with soil and plants weighing as much as 60 pounds. Plants must be handled carefully so that minimal leaves, limbs and roots are broken during transplanting process. Workers must have an understanding of nursery quality control standards and a working knowledge of nursery production procedures. Workers must have the ability to work as a member of a team as well as to work unsupervised. Produce: Plants, cultivates, harvests and packs vegetables. Works on planter, plants roots, seeds, and bulbs. Workers may spread or remove plastic or other groundcovering and drip tape from fields. Weeds, thins, plants. Transplants plants, riding on transplanter or by hand. May set poles and wires for vine plants. Workers must also stake, tie, trellis and/or prune plants. Picks, cuts, lifts, or pulls crops to harvest them. May tie vegetables in bunches or top them. Considerable stooping and kneeling is required. Care must be taken to prevent damaging produce and plants. May assist with irrigation; apply agricultural chemicals: herbicides and insecticides and applying fertilizer. May operate and help maintain tractors or hand-operated equipment. May assist with general farm building maintenance. Work is to be done for long periods of time. Workers are expected to perform duties including boxing, weighing and loading of product. Workers will assist in loading trucks with packaged product weighing up to and including 60 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet for long periods of time. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, insect spray, related chemicals, etc. may affect workers' ability to perform the job. Workers are exposed to wet weather early in the morning through the heat of the day, working in fields. Temperatures may range from 10 to 100 F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Work is performed as a member of a crew under close supervision of a field supervisor. Instructions and general supervision will be provided by a designated lead worker or company supervisor. Vegetable workers will be expected to perform their duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. All workers harvesting vegetables will be expected to work at a comparable rate of speed. Work may also include mechanized field work using power equipment. By way of example and not limitation power equipment may include tractors, planters, sprayers, cultivators and other farm and packing house equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction. Job opportunity is Skill Level I. All primary duties are entry-level and require close supervision and/or a short demonstration of the task by a more experienced worker.
