Overview
The Controller will lead accounting, financial reporting, and control functions for a growing private credit RIA. This hands‑on role covers management company accounting and oversight of private credit funds through third‑party administrators. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, private credit experience, and comfort operating in a lean, start-up environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of management company accounting including month‑end close, general ledger maintenance, accruals and reconciliations
- Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statements and management reporting packages
- Oversee expense allocations, intercompany accounting, and reimbursements
- Serve as primary liaison to fund administrators; review NAVs, fees, investor statements, and waterfalls
- Validate private credit accounting (interest accruals, PIK income, amortized cost loans, unfunded commitments)
- Manage treasury operations, including cash management, account payables, capital call distributions, budgeting and liquidity forecasting
- Assist with bank account opening processes and associated KYC
- Coordinate annual audits and support tax reporting (K‑1s)
- Assist with regulatory reporting and RIA compliance requirements (including Form ADV support)
- Maintain internal controls and improve systems and processes
- Support new fund launches and ad hoc reporting for senior management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
- 7 years of accounting experience in asset management or private funds
- Direct experience with private credit or alternative investment strategies
- Experience working with third‑party fund administrators
- Strong Excel skills
