Starting Pay: $20.00/hour
Location: Willimantic, CT
Hours:
Tuesday: 2pm-11pm
Wednesday: 3pm-7pm
Thursday 3pm-10pm
Total hours: 20 hours per week
The Independent Living Skills Trainer (ILST) provides non-medical, community-based training and support to individuals with acquired brain injuries. The ILST assists participants in developing, maintaining, and generalizing skills necessary for independent living, safety, and community integration.
Essential Responsibilities
Skill Development
- Provide direct training in activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Teach and reinforce problem-solving, memory, and organization skills
- Implement individualized service plans
Daily Living Training
- Support individuals in cooking, cleaning, hygiene, and home management
- Promote independence through structured teaching and repetition
Social & Behavioral Support
- Model appropriate social behavior and communication
- Assist with emotional regulation and behavioral strategies
Community Integration
- Train individuals in transportation use and community navigation
- Support participation in social, recreational, and vocational activities
Health & Safety Monitoring
- Provide reminders and supervision related to health routines
- Reinforce safety awareness in home and community environments
Documentation & Team Collaboration
- Document progress toward goals
- Communicate with care managers and interdisciplinary team
- Follow all DSS and ABI Waiver guidelines

Minimum Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with brain injury, disabilities, or behavioral needs
- Strong communication and teaching skills
- Ability to implement structured plans and interventions
