We have a 150 acre farm in which 100 acres is in sod production. Harvesting is done early morning and occasionally after dark when required. Our sod is harvested three times a week, so it is required that the employees can operate a tractor. Planting is done in August and September. Employees must maintain and keep up farm appearances e.g. running a weed trimmer, push mower, trimming trees and bushes along with filling pot holes with stone. Employees must be able to help with set up of irrigation pipe during dry times and help with de-watering during wet times. We have around 1 acre of pumpkins and other fall crops are grown, so there will be a few hours a week in spring and summer hoeing and watering the pumpkins. In September and October we harvest these crops. Some stacking of sod onto pallets may be required when it is not practical to use the automated harvester at employer's discretion. Employees must be friendly and able to load sod rolls that weigh up to 70lbs. Employees will assist with all aspects of growing/harvesting these crops, and complete general farm duties as assigned. Employees will need to complete routine repairs and maintenance on equipment. As the Farm Mechanic additional requirements include prior experience with diesel and gas engines. Experience with farm equipment including but not limited to sod harvesters, John Deere tractors, Ford tractors, Case tractors and International tractors, along with farm implements. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. 25% will be farm equipment maintenance and mechanical work and 75% of the work will be farmworker and crop job duties.
