Wisestaff is urgently hiring for qualified and experienced Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN/LPN) with one (1) or more years of experience in the past three (3) years in an INPATIENT FACILITY (in a Medical or Surgical Unit) for the USAISR Burn Unit at San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). The US Army Institute of Surgical Research Burn Center is unique. Not only are they the only American Burn Association-verified burn center in South Texas, they also are the only such center in the Department of Defense. They care for both injured warfighters and their families from around the world, and for injured civilians from our local communities. They are a team of almost 300 burn-care professionals-doctors, nurses, therapists, and many others-all passionately focused on one goal: optimal recovery, restoration of function, and community reintegration of the burn survivors entrusted to our care. To this end, they provide state-of-the-art critical care, surgery, and rehabilitation.
Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN/LPN) Duties:
- Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress; assists physicians during treatments and examinations; administers medication and prescribed treatments, completes admissions and discharges, and promote convalescence and rehabilitation, RNs are responsible for monitoring and interpretation of collected data by the LVNs and unlicensed assisted personnel, informing the medical staff as appropriate.
- Assess patients' conditions for potential or life-threatening crises and distinguishes between normal and abnormal physical findings; initiates life saving measures in the absence of a physician.
- Capable of emergency equipment operation: defibrillator, EKG machine, cardiac monitor, and other equipment as determined by MTF, unit/clinic and position.
- Demonstrates the ability to react with alertness and skill in any emergency situation, e.g., cardiac or respiratory arrest, hemorrhage, shock, severe physical trauma and psychiatric reaction, initiates life saving measures in the absence of a physician, depending on position and protocol, may serve as member of resuscitation or emergency code team.
- Each Licensed Vocational Nurse will manually and/or electronically document all patient care given and the progress of the patient utilizing the SAMMC/WHASC documentation standards in the patients' medical record.

Requirements
- MUST have one (1) or more years of experience within the past five (5) years in an INPATIENT FACILITY (in a Medical or Surgical Unit).
- Must be competent in demonstrating neurovascular assessment, tracheostomy care and care of patients with chest tubes.
- All Burn Unit LVNs must complete and pass the BAMC Telemetry Test within the first 30 days.
- Must be able to pass a background check for government clearance.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing by the National League of Nursing
- Valid Licensed Vocational Nurse LVN/LPN Nursing license from ANY US Jurisdiction
- Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Shall be able to stand for long periods of time and not have any physical restrictions that limit their ability to perform independent patient care.
