Job Description

Our client is seeking a highly adaptable Mainframe Developer & Support Engineer to support critical legacy systems, reverse-engineer existing code, and handle day-to-day production support activities. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, hands-on mainframe development experience, and the ability to work in a fast-paced support environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide daily production support for mainframe applications
Respond to user queries, incidents, and service requests
Perform incident triage, root-cause analysis, and resolution
Reverse engineer and decode existing COBOL/JCL programs to identify issues and enhancements
Develop, modify, test, and deploy mainframe code (COBOL, JCL, DB2 SQL)
Monitor systems during U.S. business hours
Provide weekend deployment support as required
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and document technical findings
Automate manual tasks to improve operational efficiency

Required Technical Skills

COBOL development (must be able to read and modify complex legacy code)
JCL writing, debugging, and job flow analysis
DB2 SQL query development, debugging, and performance tuning
VSAM
z/OS
FILEAID
Easytrieve
SPUFI / QMF
Endevor and/or GitLab for source control

Ideal Candidate Profile

3 6 years of mainframe development/support experience
Strong adaptability and willingness to handle both support and development tasks
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
Comfortable working in a hybrid model in Pittsburgh, PA
Strong communication and teamwork abilities

Required Technical Skills

Hands-on experience with COBOL, JCL, and DB2 SQL
Ability to read, debug, modify, and reverse-engineer legacy mainframe code
Familiar with VSAM, z/OS, FILEAID, Easytrieve, SPUFI/QMF
Experience with Endevor / GitLab or similar version-control tools
