Key accountabilities may include:

  • Perform high-volume, high-quality, safe spay/neuter surgeries for public and/or shelter animals.
  • Perform other surgeries as needed for shelter animals
  • Ensuring safe, effective and efficient medical processes from check in to discharge, including follow-up
  • Vaccinating animals and providing quality medical screenings
  • Monitoring the daily health of clients and/or shelter animals
  • Develop and implement treatment plans as needed for animals in shelter and foster
  • Providing medical information to clients and answering questions as needed
  • Train and support any designated persons in all aspects of patient care and efficient/safe clinic practices, while maintaining a professional and positive approach
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • DVM degree and license required; high volume spay/neuter experience preferred.
  • Ability to partner with clients, staff, and volunteers from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
  • Able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to routinely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Hiring range: $95,000-120,000/year for full-time, or equivalent for part-time and relief positions

About us:

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door, Brown, and Kenosha Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis and a wildlife rehabilitation center in Milwaukee. The organization offers adoption services, youth programs, low-cost veterinary resources, retail stores, volunteer programs, dog training classes, and much more. WHS is an independent nonprofit and receives no general government funding and is not part of any national umbrella group.
