Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Buildings/Grounds Superintendent, this position assists in supervising and directing maintenance staff, provides emergency repair services, ensures safety and code compliance, establishes and maintains preventative maintenance programs, purchases maintenance supplies and services, performs record keeping and other administrative duties, supervises inmate workers and maintains security in work areas.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-04 with a starting pay of $30.00/hour - $37.82/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work.

The schedule for this position is 7 AM - 3:30 PM, with a 30 minute lunch.

This position has physical requirements, including but not limited to: walking, pushing/pulling, bending, twisting, lifting/carrying up to 75lbs. This position works within a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. The hired applicant must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week, depending on operational needs. This may include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Supervisory/lead worker experience (e.g. training, assigning duties, reviewing work, staffing process, interviewing candidates, hiring recommendations)
  • Maintaining or repairing systems commonly used in building/institution complexes. (i.e. heating, cooling & refrigeration systems, electric and mechanical equipment, food service equipment, grounds equipment, security systems, building structure components, plumbing, electrical, computerized and mechanical systems, and vehicles.)
  • Planning and directing the maintenance and repair of service systems. (i.e. telephone, radio, computer local network, electric, security fences, cameras, natural gas, water distribution systems and storm, and sanitary sewer system.)

In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Establishing and maintaining safety training programs and safety policy implementations including fire codes, ADA accessibility, building codes, material handling safety, lockout/tag out procedures, confined space entry.
  • Experience planning and purchasing materials for maintenance projects
