What are the responsibilities and job description for the Agricultural Program Specialist position at Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection?
The position performs highly skilled professional work to provide operating and new producers advice on such areas as establishing or growing farm businesses. Additionally, it is tasked with building relationships, educating, providing technical expertise, supporting producers and food system stakeholders, as well as other activities. Responsibilities include researching opportunities for all producers with including an emphasis on areas such as organic and specialty crops. This includes providing information, referral services, and technical assistance to these producers. Additional duties entail helping design and operate divisional food system programming through applying for grants, administrating federal or state funding, or other means.
In addition, this position will both manage and provide support to agency and divisional grant projects with an emphasis on areas such as organics, food systems, food security, specialty crops, and other value- added programs deemed beneficial to producers. These tasks include but are not limited to grant writing, grant administration, management of budgets, and communication with program staff. Further, the position will evaluate program deliverables, efficiency, effectiveness, and outcomes. Findings will be used to evaluate efficacy, make recommendations, and develop reports as needed. The position will provide input to division management and help develop short and long-term goals for assigned areas. It will help measure impact and collect program data for reporting purposes.
