Job Summary
Dairy State Cheese is seeking a dependable and motivated Whey Plant Operator to join our team in Rudolph, Wisconsin. This role is responsible for operating and monitoring the liquid whey processing systems that support safe, efficient, and high-quality production. The ideal candidate will have experience in dairy processing, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to manage multiple systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor whey processing equipment on the liquid side of the plant.
- Run membrane filtration systems including Ultrafiltration (UF), Reverse Osmosis (RO), Nanofiltration (NF), and Polisher membrane systems.
- Operate whey HTST pasteurization systems in compliance with plant and regulatory requirements.
- Manage whey and permeate silos, including product transfers, inventory awareness, and proper routing.
- Operate whey separators and clarifiers to support product quality and process efficiency.
- Perform sanitation and CIP procedures on processing equipment and related systems.
- Monitor process conditions, flows, pressures, temperatures, and product quality throughout production.
- Complete required production, quality, and sanitation documentation accurately and on time.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues and communicate concerns promptly to supervisors or maintenance.
- Follow all food safety, quality, and workplace safety procedures.
- Support general whey plant operations and assist with other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in dairy manufacturing, whey processing, membrane systems, or liquid processing preferred.
- Ability to learn: UF, RO, NF, pasteurization, separators, and CIP systems is required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work in a production environment that may include weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to lift, climb stairs, work around processing equipment, and perform physical tasks in a manufacturing setting.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with whey protein concentration or membrane filtration operations.
- Familiarity with dairy sanitation standards and food safety requirements.
- Basic computer skills for production records and system monitoring.
